Overview
Changing your Wi-Fi name and password is one of the first things you should do after setting up your router. The default credentials are publicly known and using them is a security risk.
Accessing Your Router Settings
- 1Connect to your router via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable.
- 2Open any browser and go to 192.168.1.1 (or 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.254, 192.168.0.254, 192.168.88.1, routerlogin.net, or netic.cc).
- 3Log in with your router's admin username and password (default: admin / admin — check the label on the router).
- 4You should now see your router's admin dashboard.
⚠️
If you changed your admin password previously and forgot it, you will need to factory reset the router. See the Router Factory Reset guide.
Changing Your Wi-Fi Name (SSID)
- 1In the router dashboard, go to Wireless Settings or Wi-Fi Settings.
- 2Find the field labeled SSID or Network Name.
- 3Delete the current name and type your new Wi-Fi name.
- 4Click Save or Apply.
Changing Your Wi-Fi Password
- 1In the Wireless Settings, find Security Settings or Wireless Security.
- 2Ensure Security Mode is set to WPA2-PSK or WPA3 (not WEP or Open).
- 3Find the field labeled Password, Key, or Passphrase.
- 4Enter your new password — use at least 12 characters with letters, numbers, and symbols.
- 5Click Save or Apply.
- 6Reconnect all your devices with the new password.
💡
Write your new password on a small sticker and attach it to the bottom of the router — but do not put it where guests can easily see it.
