Speed Requirements for Streaming

  • 720p HD — 3–5 Mbps per stream
  • 1080p Full HD — 5–8 Mbps per stream
  • 4K Ultra HD — 15–25 Mbps per stream
  • 4K HDR (Netflix, Disney+) — 25 Mbps per stream

With Triangle's BONIK plan (100 Mbps), you can run 4 simultaneous 4K streams with bandwidth to spare.

Fixing Buffering and Quality Drops

  1. 1Connect your smart TV via Ethernet (most smart TVs have an ethernet port on the back).
  2. 2If using Wi-Fi, ensure the TV is connected to the 5 GHz network, not 2.4 GHz.
  3. 3Move the router closer or use a Wi-Fi extender if signal is weak at the TV location.
  4. 4In the streaming app settings, set quality to 'Auto' or 'High' — some apps default to lower quality.
  5. 5Restart the streaming app (not just minimize it) to clear buffered low-quality segments.
  6. 6Restart your smart TV weekly — memory buildup slows streaming apps significantly.

Platform-Specific Tips

  • Netflix — Go to Profile → Playback Settings → select High quality
  • YouTube — Click gear icon → Quality → choose 2160p (4K) or 1080p60
  • Toffee / Chorki — Use the in-app quality selector; ensure auto-quality is enabled
  • Prime Video — Set Streaming Quality to Best in app settings
